Outreach

The Outreach Ministry works with mission-oriented programs that extend the love of Jesus Christ and the church to communities in need through prayer and/or financial support. Outreach has two significant ministries:
Global and Local.

Global Outreach
Our Global Outreach ministry concentrates its efforts on the following countries and projects. Volunteers may serve as liaisons to these programs or join a planned mission trip.

Nicaragua: FPC partners with two programs in Nicaragua; House of Hope, a refuge to get women and children off the streets and New Life, an orphanage and nutrition center for pre-school malnourished children. Participate in short-term mission outreach projects on-site and take the opportunity to witness God’s work in our world. For more information, please contact Kent Grimes here. To follow along while we are on our mission trip, please click HERE to access our blog!

Haiti: FPC partners with Haiti Outreach Ministries (HOM) to support faith-based communities in the suburbs of Port au Prince, Haiti. Each community contains a church, school, water supply, nutritional support and job training. Participate in a mission team to support healthcare, construction and education. Teams stay in a HOM guest house, dine with Haitian partners and work in the HOM communities. For more information, please contact Brain Fatzinger here. Kenya Liaison: FPC partners with  Nairobi Central Presbytery to provide scholarships for homeless young people. Become part of a team that supports relationships and provides scholarship funding for these students known as Bahati Scholars. For more information about the Bahati Scholars program CLICK HERE.

Congo Liaison: FPC partners with the Congo Presbyterian Church and the Christian Medical Institute of Kasai (IMCK) through mission co-workers, projects, such as new water systems and building the IMCK chapel.

Operation Christmas Child: FPC partners with Samaritan’s Purse to prepare boxes with basic hygiene and school supplies, as well as a toy for a child. Participate in collecting articles and packing these boxes to be mailed to Samaritan’s Purse in time to be delivered as a Christmas gift. For more information, please contact Robin Swift here

Local Outreach

This ministry initiates opportunities to support local community organizations needs, as well as programs developed within our own congregation and/or the PCUSA.

BackPack Buddies: An interfaith community program, BPB provides food for students in the Hilton Head and Ridgeland elementary schools who are on reduced or free lunch programs in a backpack with nutritious,
child-friendly food for the weekend. In addition to monetary support, volunteers pick up, pack and deliver food to the schools.

Habitat for Humanity: Build, through financial contributions and volunteer construction work, affordable housing at The Glen off Marshland Road on Hilton Head Island.  Volunteers can also work at Habitat’s thrift shop, The ReStore, in Bluffton.

People in Need: Volunteers needed Tuesday mornings in the church office offering assistance to people who need help with rent, food, utilities and medical expenses.

School Uniform Drive: Help with coordinating and sorting of donated school uniforms for children in local school districts.

Thornwell Home for Children Liaison: Contact Thornwell to determine items needed. Plan and develop Christmas display with information on how to fill needs for children and cottages. Gifts need to be transported to Clinton, SC, prior to Christmas.
