This ministry initiates opportunities to support local community organizations needs, as well as programs developed within our own congregation and/or the PCUSA.
BackPack Buddies: An interfaith community program, BPB provides food for students in the Hilton Head and Ridgeland elementary schools who are on reduced or free lunch programs in a backpack with nutritious, child-friendly food for the weekend. In addition to monetary support, volunteers pick up, pack and deliver food to the schools.
Book Buddies: Volunteers adopt 3rd, 4th or 5th grade classes at Ridgeland Elementary School and create a “pen-pal” relationship with the students.
Books and More: Volunteers help to collect and distribute books for needy schools in South Carolina.
Douglas K. Fletcher Scholarship: The Douglas K Fletcher Scholarship fund was created to fund supplies, equipment and textbooks needed by students to be successful in a college program. Applications are open to all students. Click here to access the application.
GED Mentor Program: Volunteers help non-high school graduates obtain their General Education Certificate by serving as mentor/teacher.
Habitat for Humanity: Volunteers help to build, through financial contributions and volunteer construction work, affordable housing at The Glen off Marshland Road on Hilton Head Island.  Volunteers can also work at Habitat’s thrift shop, The ReStore, in Bluffton. Story about the Ramirez home, July 2020, click here.
People in Need: Volunteers are needed Tuesday mornings in the church office offering assistance to people who need help with rent, food, utilities and medical expenses.
Presbyterian Communities: Volunteers report updates and the ongoing needs of this non-profit service enabling retirees to live with dignity and independence.
School Uniform Drive: Volunteers help with coordinating and sorting of donated school uniforms for children in local school districts.
Thornwell Home for Children Liaison: Volunteers help plan and develop Christmas collection for children living at the Thornwell Home for Children.
