Work in Progress meets in the library and via Zoom at 9:00 AM. The class often uses a curriculum provided by “The Wired Word” publication, where a specific current news story is discussed. The discussion focuses on relevant scripture references and what it means to live as a Christian in today’s world. In addition, the class alternates with discussions on books or other topics. Last year, the class participated in all-church book studies, and several other studies, using works by Adam Hamilton, Barbara Brown Taylor, Tracy Daub, Walter Brueggemann, and more. JOY Group meets via Zoom on Sundays at 11:30 AM. This is an open group of singles and couples. JOY welcomes new members. The group is currently studying an Adam Hamilton book. The next study will be decided upon with input of all members. Usually, the class takes part in Advent and Lenten book studies recommended by FPC’s Adult Ministry. 2 Samuel: One Nation Under God Mondays, Feb 2-March 30; 10 AM, In person and via Zoom By spending some time in the Old Testament, we are reminded how the roots of our collective and personal faith lives still draw deeply from God the ancient Israel, our God. For about 400 years after the Israelites crossed over into the promised land, God raised up a series of judges to help this loose federation of tribes remember and rely on the sovereignty of God. But during Samuel’s service as a judge, the people demanded a king, an earthly king. From King Saul, to King David, to King Solomon and beyond, the books of Samuel track how faithfulness vs timid near-faithfulness vs selfish faithlessness accompanied the rise and decline of the “mini-empire” of the ancient nation of Israel. We have much to learn about our own “roller-coasters of faith” from the stories and the characters chronicled in these books. Please join us. Sarah Circle welcomes women of FPC and friends to meet for fellowship and Bible study on the first Monday of each month at 12:30 PM in room 202, in person or via Zoom beginning October till June. We each bring our lunch and a beverage, a member brings dessert, and we enjoy a time of fellowship and then join in Bible study. Our circle provides a space for women to deepen their faith through prayer, Bible study, and shared spiritual experiences. Empty Chair/Extra Chair is a men's small group that meets every other Tuesday at 9:00 AM in room 219. Jim Robinson and Bob White lead the group. This group studies an appropriate book chosen by the group. The group keeps an "Empty Chair" for anyone who needs a small group and would care to join them. We meet regularly, friendships are formed, and belonging is found. Men's Bible Study resumed on September 3. They meet at 9:00 AM via Zoom and are open to new members. They are currently studying the gospel of Luke. All are welcome. Study materials this year will include selected parables of Jesus and "Journey with Me", by W. Randall Lolley. This is a women’s discussion group that selects books by consensus about Christianity for study. SpEx members have genuine interest in each other's views and an authentic desire to listen to them with respect. Lowcountry Lessons is taught by David Lauderdale who usually combines a scripture lesson with a story about Lowcountry life gleaned from his 40-plus years as a local journalist. The class meets via Zoom each Wednesday from 4:15 to 5 p.m. The season runs from right after Labor Day to Memorial Day. We will start the year with Jesus's great question: "Who do you say I am?" Then continues with the "I Am" study until Thanksgiving, when we will join the church's Advent study of a book that fits perfectly with our theme, "Names for the Messiah" by Walter Brueggemann. Other sources informing our study include "Jesus As They Saw Him," by William Barclay and the "I Am Bible Bible Study: Seven Powerful Claims of Christ" that class member Richard Allen has taught before and passed along for use by this class.

Meditation Group meets in person at the church at 4:00 PM in the South Room. FPC Member Mel Witmer facilitates this class each week. The focus is cultivating a sense of inner peace and rest in the presence of God. A time to step away from all that's hectic in your life and focus on calm reflection.
