About the event
“Decades after Jesus’ death, it seems that “most excellent Theophilus” wants some answers. Is Jesus truly the Messiah? If so, why did he need to suffer and die? And, now at least 50 years since his death and resurrection, why has his expected return been delayed? In the meantime, what does it mean and why should one bother to live a Kingdom life amid the pressures and temptations to seek after and enjoy power, wealth, and social status? Studying Luke-Acts, the largest contribution to the New Testament written by a single author, we will explore the writer’s answers (indeed Christ’s answers) to these questions during a period in the history of our faith when the community of God’s people expanded rapidly from Jerusalem to Rome.
